Confocal Using Guideline
  1. NOBC aims to mainly support NHRI researches and give limited time slots for other national research units with related research projects to promote the objective of research resource sharing.
  1. This laboratory is under the management Core Instrument Center and in charged by Dr. Yi-Rong Chen.
  1. Users:
    1. Users must complete the confocal microscope basic operation training before using the system.
    2. Only the Long-term users who are trained, certified, and approved by NOBC are allowed to run on machines individually.
           Confocal training consists of:
(1) Attend basic training sessions and machine demonstration workshops
(2) Have received >3 times of technical assistance experiences
(3) Individual sessions for hands-on practice and covering specific techniques from the NOBC research assistant
(4) Pass a practical test to be certified.
    1. Short-term users will have assistance from the NOBC research assistant to operate in order to maintain precision of the machine.
    2. Prior online reservation is required. One-week-ahead reservation accepts booking on every Monday starting at 10:00, which allows the NOBC technical research assistant being prepared.
  1. Hours of Operation:
    1. Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 (morning slot)) and 13:00 to 16:30 (afternoon slot) with technical assistance.
    2. Each user is allowed up to maximum of one slot per day only. Please first mark on reservation sheet and contact the technical research assistant directly if you require after-hours operation.
  1. Important Notices:
    1. Sign in the log book with certainty prior to the use of instrument and follow the starting up procedure and shutdown procedure. Then, log in the using hours and the instrument using information onto the log book after use.
    2. Please prepare own disc (CD, VCD, or DVD) for data saving. No personal data is allowed to save on any public-use computer at NOBC.
    3. Users shall prepare and bring own slide samples to NOBC. A slide sample must cover with a coverslip and be sealed around the coverslip with nail polish or using mounting media. Users can consult core research assistant if having problem with sample preparation.
    4. Kindly call 33702 for assistance shall you encounter problems while using.
  1. Repair of the instruments is rather costly. Inappropriate use of this system will result in the revocation of access for one year. In addition, NOBC may prosecute user’s liability to any compensation.
  1. NOBC will conduct regular training course/workshop to provide opportunity for researchers to discuss together and also equip them with necessary techniques.
  1. This guideline takes effect upon announcement. Further revision maybe made when necessary to accommodate actual service requirements.
